Meetings that made entertainment history… When Brad met Angelina
It’s the year 2004, Greece is hosting the Olympic Games, the Mars Rover has landed safely on the Red Planet, and a momentous celebrity partnership is about to blossom between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
Brad Pitt, being an American actor and film producer, found himself in the company of Miss Jolie, the actress and humanitarian, on the film set of Mr and Mrs Smith. The action-packed film saw these two actors play a married couple, who were undercover assassins that indecently had been ordered to kill each other.
The evolving relationship between these two iconic celebrities was forever in the spotlight. Pitt is a household name and has been described by many media outlets as the most attractive man in the world. However, in terms of his personal life at the time, the status of his marriage to Jennifer Anniston was continuously called into question as suspicion grew concerning his relationship with Jolie.
Jolie, had a successful career herself and celebrity status that mirrored that of Pitt, coupled with being branded the most attractive woman in the world by the media. It could be speculated that, perhaps, this parallel between their two lives was the catalyst that led to their relationship fully coming to fruition.
In January 2005, Pitt and Aniston announced their separation which wasn’t entirely seen as a shock considering growing speculation and accusations that Pitt was having an affair with Jolie whilst on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith.
Just one month after divorcing Aniston, images emerged of Pitt and Jolie holidaying together in Kenya with her adopted son Maddox, but the couple didn’t publicly acknowledge their relationship until January 2006 when they announced that Angelina was pregnant with Brad’s baby.
During their 12 year relationship they were one of Hollywood’s most glamorous couples, growing their family to six children, three of whom were adopted.
The continuous media storm surrounding the couple hit new heights in 2010 when the couple sued ‘The News of The World’ over the spread of rumours that the couple had split. The rumours couldn’t have been further from the truth, in fact, two years later, in April 2012, the couple got engaged.
After the shock revelation to ‘The New York Times’ that Jolie had gone through a preventative double mastectomy, she continued to express her gratitude for having a partner like Pitt who was supportive when going through the surgeries. This episode undeniably brought the couple closer together and they were married on their estate in France in 2014.
It is fair to say that the couple had a relationship full of twists and turns, never far from the public eye, however, 2016 was the last year that the couple were seen together. In an unexpected turn of events, Jolie, filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences.
After having had a relationship which was so closely followed by the media and the public, Pitt and Jolie made the decision to hire a private judge to keep this last part of their relationship away from prying eyes.
