When Liam Neeson Met Pamela Anderson

Some celebrity pairings feel so surreal, they could have been dreamed up by a Hollywood scriptwriter.

This is the case with Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, who have captured media attention not only with their onscreen chemistry in The Naked Gun reboot, but also with a real-life bond.

From playful red carpet appearances to TV interviews full of intimate smiles, the relationship between the two Hollywood legends has become one of the most talked about celebrity stories of the year. However, the media is divided on whether their intriguing love story is real, or just a great PR campaign.

First meeting on set

Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson’s first famous meeting took place in May 2024, when casting began for the long awaited reboot of cult comedy The Naked Gun. Based on American TV series Police Squad, it first aired on the ABC network in 1982. Three Naked Gun films were released as spinoffs between 1988 and 1994, starring comedy legend Leslie Nielsen.

Talks were held in 2009 about resurrecting the franchise, but the project was shelved following Nielsen’s passing in 2010. Making a new version of a cult classic with different stars in 2025 was considered a brave decision by Paramount Pictures. Neeson was cast as Lieutenant Frank Drebin Jnr, of the Los Angeles Police Department, whose vigorous policing style started to become a liability.

A source close to the production revealed Neeson, 73, had advocated for Anderson’s casting as the female lead, crime novelist Beth Davenport, citing her impeccable comedic timing and charm. She starred in the leading role of Vallery Irons in the comedy series VIP from 1998 to 2002, when her character accidentally saved a celebrity’s life.

After working together on set for six months, Neeson was full of praise for Anderson in an October 2024 interview with People magazine, telling reporters. “First off, I’m madly in love with her! She’s just terrific to work with. No huge ego. She just comes in to do the work.”

Anderson, 58, was equally complimentary, calling Neeson “the perfect gentleman” and saying he brought out the best in her. “It was an absolute honour to work with him,” she said. From day one, it seemed the two shared something more than just professional respect – they had a spark.

Chemistry that grew during filming

By early 2025, things appeared to be heating up. On set, they bonded over a shared love of literature and comedy, while they dined together off set. It was reported that Anderson baked cookies and muffins for Neeson, regularly leaving them in his dressing room.

In May 2025, she told Entertainment Weekly their connection was “clear from the start” and added  their time together was filled with laughter, mutual support and a deep emotional connection. “We had many dinners out with the cast, but also some quiet dinners just the two of us, where we talked about life, work and family,” she said.

While The Naked Gun was gearing up for its release in August 2025, many of the pair’s early public sightings happened in the UK, specifically around high-profile events. Industry insiders speculated that their “first real spark” was revealed in one of the stylish London meeting rooms used for promotional strategy sessions. One gathering, which was organised to finalise a photoshoot schedule, turned into a surprisingly intimate two-hour chat between Anderson and Neeson, long after the rest of the team had left.

From rumours to reality

In July 2025, major outlets, including People and Us Weekly, began reporting that the pair were dating, describing it as “a budding romance in the early stages”. Public interest skyrocketed and the global publicity tour became a chance to decode their body language. At every red carpet event and press stop, fans and journalists alike wondered if they were just playing it up for the cameras, or whether it was the real deal.

At the end of July, they appeared on The Today Show together. When asked if they were dating, they acted shocked. “I don’t understand the question,” Pamela quipped. Liam smiled, saying, “We discovered we had a lovely, budding chemistry as two actors.”

A playful kiss on the cheek at the film’s UK premiere further fuelled speculation. Photos from their Berlin and New York appearances showed the two smiling, laughing and walking arm-in-arm.

Looking at their pasts

What makes this story even more compelling is the history each of them brings. The late British actress Natasha Richardson and Liam Neeson were married for 15 years, until her tragic passing in a skiing accident in 2009. Neeson has always been largely private about his personal life and has focused on fatherhood, bringing up their two sons, Micheál and Daniel, born in 1995 and 1996 respectively.

Anderson has five ex-husbands including Tommy Lee, Kid Rock and Rick Salomon which has kept her name in tabloids for decades. In recent years, the mother-of-two has shed much of her earlier scandalous persona, emerging instead as someone deeply introspective, with a focus on family, health and artistic work. When people ask about Pamela Anderson’s husbands, it comes with a sense of looking back at a very different chapter in her life.

As a couple, this story is so compelling because it’s about two people with diverse backgrounds finding something unexpected at a time when neither was particularly looking.

Playful moments and public confirmation

On 1st August 2025, the film was released in cinemas, so fans could see their chemistry play out onscreen. To mark the occasion, Anderson posted a series of black-and-white photos with Neeson laughing, eating popcorn and taking candid snapshots of each other. It wasn’t just a promotional post, as it seemed intimate. Joely Richardson, Natasha’s sister, left heart emojis in the comments under the post.

For Neeson, it was the first time since Natasha’s passing that the public had seen him so visibly joyful. Fans responded with overwhelming support, and searches for “Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson” surged as people reflected on his past while embracing this unexpected new chapter in his life.

The two continued to make headlines with their Titanic parody on TikTok and a shared appearance on Radio Andy, where Neeson described their first meeting: “We discovered a ‘silliness’ with each other, which was terrific.”

Pamela called him a “sweetheart” and admitted she was “literally shaking” with nerves before their first scene together. Their banter felt natural, unscripted and genuine.

While Hollywood has seen its fair share of “showmances”, this pairing feels different. Their affection doesn’t seem false and there’s a depth that goes beyond selling tickets. While the timing certainly helps the film, fans have seen something endearing about it all and seem eager to root for them. It may be the rom-com plot twist no one saw coming, but everyone secretly wanted.
