&Meetings Director Ashleigh Sharp joins the MIA (Meetings Industry Association) Council

&Meetings Director Ashleigh Sharp has been elected to the MIA (Meeting Industry Association) council having been nominated by its Honorary Secretary Nick Milne.

The election took place at MIA’s 24th AGM in April, at which a new Chairman, Andrew Mosley, General Manager of The Grand Brighton, was also appointed.

The 27 strong council consists of representatives who reflect the diverse mix of MIA members and as Director of an AIM accredited venue, Ashleigh is delighted to have been put forward for the role of council member.

The MIA was established by a group of hotel and conference centre operators together with booking agent colleagues to represent an industry which is responsible for thousands of direct and sector servicing jobs. It is now one of the fastest growing associations in the meetings, events and conference sector with membership increasing by 18% in 2013 to 531 members.

Over its 22 year history the MIA has provided the sector with an accreditation scheme, industry awards, important research and a voice in government, supporting members through regional networking opportunities and helping them achieve the highest facilities and services standards as well as delivering numerous other member benefits.

The MIA List

Ashleigh joined &Meetings in October 2013 bringing with her extensive industry experience from her time as Cluster Meetings & Events Manager at the Intercontinental Hotels Group and before that as Cluster Meetings & Events Diary Manager at the Millennium Hotel in Mayfair.

Commenting on the appointment Ashleigh said: “I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to serve the industry for which I have worked for so many years. During my tenure I will strive to raise awareness of the importance of AIM accreditation as a standard throughout the sector.”
